2007 MOURVEDRE Limited Release ($30.00) Maximum purchase of 3 bottles
Our "cellar door only" release. In 2007, we made just two barrels of this southern European variety known in Spain as Monastrell, in France as Mourvedre and in Australia often called Mataro. It's usually seen in Australia in a blend with Shiraz and Grenache but we reckon this wine from the 2007 vintage is more than able to stand on its own. It shows the classic varietal characters of spice and vibrant dark fruit paired with a fine persistent tannin structure. Maturation in a combination of French and American oak has added complexity without dominating the fruit. Delicious now but has plenty of ageing potential.
Max Allen's review on our Mourvedre in the Weekend Australian Magazine dated
5-6 April this year
"At Pyramids Road Winery, I tasted a 2007 Mourvedre which had all the
spicy fleshiness and vibrancy of a new-wave monastrell (another name for Mourvedre)
from southern Spain".
